Year End Shopping Fever

Published by under Fashion

I love end of the years. Besides big bonuses and long holidays, everywhere I go I can see the ‘S’ sign. SALE! Yes!! Its that time of the year again; after Christmas – ‘End of Season SALE’.

I am not a shopaholic but I love indulging in good deals. And recently I splurge about S$300 on just tops. I went crazy walking around VivoCity with my bestest shopping buddy, Fai. Uh huh.. Fai is my shopping buddy. Yes, eventhough he is my boyfriend, that doesn’t stop him from being crudely honest. And if the shoes don’t fit, he’ll straight point it out to me. He had to made sure I shopped within my budget. I exceeded by S$7.

We started our shopping agenda by heading to Mango first, as they are having a crazy sale where you can get S$90 over tops at half-price. I had actually eyed one of the tops there, but regrettably they were no more in stock and the other outlets have sizes too big for me or they are damaged. However, that didn’t stop me from getting a long-sleeved orange Mango basic tee at S$14. The usual price for a basic tee from Mango is S$25.

So, on to our next stop which I literally went crazy. Forever 21. There weren’t any signs out on their glass panels indicating a SALE but as me and Fai moved around the outlet, we were carrying outfits on hangers on both arms. YES!! I was mental! The kind salesgirl took it from us as we continue going around picking more clothes. Neatly tuck at the back of the store is the sales corner.

When Forever 21 first came to Singapore I thought their items were over-priced. Until my recent shopping spree I find that they were incredibly affordable. My total damage from Forever 21 is S$177. I bought a total of 5 tops from there. All the tops I bought were below S$50 (can you believe it?!)

These are some of the cute finds available at Forever 21.

After going crazy at Forever 21, I bought 2 basic long sleeve tees yet again from Zara for S$12.90 each. Fai also managed to get a few steal from River Island. They were going at half-price. And if I didn’t exceed my budget I would have added more clothes to my year-end shopping collection from River Island.

My next stop will be the Metro Expo Sale. Though its just right behind my house (technically speaking). I’ve yet to have a look at what they have to offer. I love buying lingeries at SALES!

I must say that year-end shopping is the best time to get good deals. You can get good brands at offers from 50 percent to 70 percent. And I am currently satisfied at what I have bought. Can’t wait to wear them. And oh.. now I will always shop at Forever 21.

Benazir Bhutto Assasinated

Published by under Random

The late Benazir Bhutto

Just to inform our fellow readers that the world has lost a fellow dedicated democratic leader that fought for the rights and lives of the people in Pakistan. She has been killed at 1.16pm GMT or about 1 hour and 25 mins ago at a political rally. She was shot in the neck before the bombing. She was about to drive off in her vehicle escort after addressing the people at a political rally when she was shot. We mourn for her loss and remember her cause, a democratic and peaceful Pakistan.

The former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto was today killled in a suicide attack at a campaign rally in Rawalpindi. Bhutto was declared dead at 6.16pm (1.16pm GMT) after an attack on a rally by her Pakistan People’s party, ahead of scheduled parliamentary elections in January. Another attempt on her life killed 140 people in October, as supporters took to the streets on her return from exile. Her death has sparked panic among Pakistani bloggers, worried at what will happen next. The Pakistani Spectator says there are already reports that the elections will be postponed. 2.30pmDawn News, Pakistan’s only English language news station, reports that Nawaz Sharif, another former Pakistani PM and long time political rival of Bhutto, addressed mourners outside the hospital. He told them Bhutto’s death was an “act of terror” and promised it would not be in vain. “We will not give into violence,” he is quoted as saying. Dawn News is also reporting violence in Lahore, where it says posters advertising the election have been torn down, and Hydrebad, where cars are being set on fire. People have been advised to stay indoors.

National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets

Published by under Lifestyle, Random

Well, Nurul and I went to catch an early show at GV Tampines. Despite it being crazily cold, indeed we caught an exciting non-stop action movie with my Mom’s favourite actor, none other than the brilliant Nicholas Cage.
National Treasure 2 : Book of Secrets
Basically, the show is about our dear hero, Ben Gates, going about clearing his family’s name which has been framed for the assassination of one of America’s beloved Presidents, President Abraham Lincoln. Honestly, the action is non-stop as you are not given time to relax or doze away. It moves quickly as you are faced with obstacles and challenges with puzzles that are intricately design with novel ways of solving them. You will never expect the audacity at which he goes about to achieve his goals and the ending though can be seen from a mile away, is still fun to watch. I give it 3.5/5.
Cant wait for the upcoming sequel. Hope there is one though. I guess it should be based on page 47 in the book.

This is an interesting read as it shows us the mentality and personal traits of Lincoln’s assassin.

And read this up, if your wondering if there is such a thing as a President’s Book of Secrets. Hehe. Its a nice explanation.

HOPE Concert misses it’s Target

Published by under Lifestyle, Random

Issues with Hope Concert

However, i do want to raise concerns about the concert. I understand the dilemma faced to make it into a M18 event. It is dealing with a sensitive issue basing on HIV/AIDS and homosexuality. However, i do believe that it would have been better if it was a holistic concert incorporating everyone in the society. I understand that it is held by SafeHaven ( a Christian Gay men group).

However, instead of focusing entirely on the Gay community and awards for respected Gay personalities. They should have incorporated other Government help groups to focus the true epidemic of Aids. Aids is not only spread among Gay men. It affects women, children, drug users and hetrosexual men. It is a disease that can be stopped following proper measures and prevention. I would have liked the concert to delve more into the problems faced by HIV/AIDS patients. This would have allowed the concert to reach a bigger target audience and certainly achieve it’s main aim which is to STEM THE TIDE OF AIDS.

Malaysia has a far more positive response to the epidemic of Aids. Marina Mahatir is a strong activist for the Aids issue. Recently, only last month, RTM1 had a religious forum stating the plight of Aids sufferers. It states how Islam tells us to help them and not to burden their plight. It is not we to judge but Allah. It then goes on to explain and teach people what Aids is, how does it spread, breaking the myths of Aids and how to overcome this epidemic.

Singapore should adopt such a stand which will be beneficial not only to the society but to the eradication of this deadly disease.

HOPE Concert

Published by under Lifestyle, Random

This is long overdue, so sorry about this one guys!

HOPE CONCERT 2007 (organised by Safehaven and Action for Aids)

Well the event took place at Kreta Ayer People’s Theater at 7.30 pm. We got free tickets thanks to Nurul’s office colleague, Ben. Thanks Ben! Unfortunately, he was unable to attend. Nurul was utterly disappointed but I was there to keep her company (or rather she protected me. hehehe.)

Well we met up with Faan and Khai at Al Abrar Mosque (along Telok Ayer Street, its an old indian mosque.) Indeed, the journey to the place was a comedy of errors. We were late (initially we had trouble finding the place and later had difficulty finding a car park lot; we parked near the ktv place which was an interesting sight. Haha!) Secondly, we had a slight accident with a Mercedes Benz (got too close; lucky it was a slight touch and the driver was okay.) Lastly, after the event, we lost our new digital camera (our new Nikon S200) which was fortunately outside the car and luckily we didn’t drive off.

However, even with all these events, I have to say I was truly entertained with the show. Also, it’s the only concert that i know which has an M18 rating. Haha.

First and foremost, Hope Concert is a concert to bring awareness about the plight of HIV/AIDS patients. It’s aims is to change society’s view on the ailment and to cause better social involvement among the people. I really find it to be an important concert.

The concert was interesting and certainly controversial with having a Gay singing duo as it’s main act. Performances by Hossan Leong and Selena Tan indeed gave a Singaporean touch and flair. Certainly, Hossan Leong was at his best knocking the socks of our feet with his jokes and his timely performance of Barry Manilow’s Mandy (or was it Andy, Candy, Brandy or Sandy? Hehe.) Selena Tan was at ease having the flair that makes her adorable to the crowd. BUT, the stars of the show were indeed the hosts, Chua En Lai and his ever glamorous and sexy co-host Drag Queen Miss Stevious. Ever playful and delightful, the duo clicked immediately and was increasingly playful with each other as the show went on. Miss Stevious was amazing with her puns and teasing En Lai every step of the way.

The hall came alive when the Hope dancers consists of 5 men dancing erotic moves in nothing but boy short briefs. Nurul was laughing hysterically as i look away certainly unease by the sight. She also was amazed by how far more flexible and sensual their dance were compared with women.

Jason and deMarco, the US Billboard hit duo was surprisingly like any other couple. Jason was complaining about how deMarco always does things last minute whereas deMarco was angry as to how Jason takes a long time to change and choose his outfit.

The show ended around 10pm with Jason and deMarco singing a few hit songs which includes Moulin Rouge’s Come What May and We are Family (not too sure about the title for this one though.) Followed by a short autograph signing session at the theatre’s corridor. Nurul was being her usual hyper “groupie” self when she dashed towards Jason ignoring all of us men behind her for a picture with him. Being a tudung girl and all, she didn’t even bat an eyelid knowing that she’s at a Gay concert surrounded by Gay men and potential HIV/AIDS carrier.

It is amazing how the concert has indeed taught us valuable lessons in life and how all of us should be careful and always be loyal to our loved ones.
