Digital Cameras (1/2)

Well thanks largely from my rendezvous at Sitex, i managed to buy 3 digital cameras. Amazing for me since i have never own a digital camera. One for myself and 2 others for my family. The deals were good and Sitex was indeed the place to be as it gave many free gifts included as a package. I have always preferred conventional cameras compared to digital ones. But i guess it’s about time to catch up with the modern world.

Basically, i was looking for a camera thats

  • Easy to use, no frills (am not a professional photographer; just give me the basics)
  • Slim and stylish
  • Versatile & light enough to carry around.
  • Costs around S$300

The only brands that i trust were the usual Sony, Nikon, Canon and Olympus as they have always traditionally been camera brands. However, Canon was too expensive and i didn’t quite like the Olympus designs. SO finally decided to look only at Sony & Nikon.

For Sony, i was looking at the DCS800

Specifications

  • 8.1 megapixels
  • 6x optical zoom, 12x digital zoom, up to 30 smart zoom
  • Large 2.5-inch (6.2cm) LCD screen
  • 56MB internal memory
  • 2cm macro for close-up shooting
  • PictBridge for direct connection to printer without need for PC
  • STAMINA battery life, up to 390 shots (CIPA standard with LCD screen on)

It’s disadvantages are that firstly it uses AA batteries and meant that i had to get rechargeable ones. Also, its kinda bulky and fat. Other than that, it ‘s a dream camera.

It was retailed at S$450 dollars under Harvey Norman. However, my brother was indeed a very fortunate man as he got it at only S$225. It was marked as a sale item and had limited stock.

For the other cameras, i was looking at Nikon and finally decided on the Nikon Coolpix L14 and S200. The L14 for my Uncle and the S200 for my family.

Nikon Coolpix L14

Specifications

  • 1,000 Shots with Energizer® e²® Lithium® AA Batteries
  • 7.1 megapixels
  • 3x Optical Zoom-Nikkor Glass Lens
  • Incredible, Bright 2.4-inch LCD
  • In-camera Red-Eye Fix™
  • Face-Priority AF
  • D-Lighting

The camera functions are good and it’s easy to use. However, again it uses 2 AA batteries and it has a moving lens that makes it look big when taking pictures. I bought it for S$299.

Digital Cameras (2/2)

Finally, MY FAVOURITE CAMERA the Nikon Coolpix S200. From the moment I saw it, i went like wow! It’s stylish, sleek, slim, cool and packs quite a punch with it free goodies. It had an LCD screen protector, 2 2gb memory card, case, tripod stand, camera cleaning kit and wiping cloth.

Specifications

  • 7.1 megapixels
  • 2.5 inch TFT LCD
  • Auto Focus: Center AF point contrast detection autofocus system
  • Flash: Multi mode (Auto, Red-Eye Reduction, Fill Flash, Slow Synch, and Off)
  • Memory Storage Media: SD/SDHC/MMC
  • Image File Format: JPEG
  • Connectivity: USB 2.0HS & A/V out
  • Power: Nikon EN-EL10 Li-ion battery

Initially, it was retailed at S$399. However, thanks to the S$60 Harvey Norman voucher, I was able to get it for S$339. Also, the sales staff were kind enough to throw in another 2gb memory card (3 in total). I really love this camera and love the quality of the pictures and how slim it is to carry it along anywhere. Indeed, it has turned me into a trigger-happy photographer. Now then, give me a big smile! :D

Another “long” Engagement

Yesterday was a day full of happiness and food. If not for the throbbing migraine I would have enjoyed my entire day.

Another of my cousins got engaged. Kak Shikin. She looked beautiful in her green n purple kebaya bought from Manja (u can find the store at Joo Chiat Complex). She was so excited she bought a whole new set of Clinique makeup. I muz say my cousin is a pro Clinique makeup fan. It is the only makeup tat doesn’t affect her super sensitive skin.

Kak Shikin wanted us to help her with her makeup. I was obviously ecstatic! Kak Shikin is very particular abt makeup and by letting us experiment our makeup techniques means she was threading in deep waters. Hehe. However… we still managed to pull it off well.

I did her eyes and cheeks, which includes my personal liquid eyeliner from Revlon (S$18.90), Kak Shikin’s Bobbi Brown mascara and Ummi Munah’s Clinique blusher. Kak Raudhah helped with her tudung and selendang while Nabihah mixed her eyeshadow in purple, gold and green.

I have never had a perfect line for my upper eyelid but amazingly, I did a wonderful job on my cousin. *blushes* I’ve yet to master the technique on my own eyes. I have small eyes u see, and thus the difficulty of applying liquid eyeliner. Whereas, I’m an expert at applying mascara. The secret is to wipe away excess mascara on tissue paper; by doing this, the mascara will not be too clumpy.

I am only an amateur when it comes to makeup as I’ve yet to master the many techniques. My makeup collection compared to others is very miserable. Still.. I am excited to share my experiences with others regarding my passion for looking good.

For that moment, Kak Shikin made us feel like we were professionals. To Kak Shikin n Abg Suffian congratulations on ur engagement.
