I remember the first time i got my desktop. I was around 8 or 9 years of age when my dad had a few delivery guys send in this big, bulky and scary looking machine tucked monstrously in the other end of the room. It looked so inorganic with its greyish metal that hurts as hell whenever i accidentally hit my foot with it.
However, i soon learn to adapt and finally love my PC. I have to thank my brother Faisal for teaching me everything about computers. HE is the MASTER of the PC. HE is the man that will buy tonnes of PC Magazine and learn all the intricate parts of the PC. I have never been a software person. More of a hardware type. We will spend hours cleaning the pc and he will show us how to install memory cards or graphic cards or reformatting and upgrading. Not to mention the tonnes of games ranging from Italia 90 to Championship Manager. I am always indebted to my Brother for teaching this skill. Always.
Anyways, i have always been a desktop person till my brother had to head to Lancaster, UK for his overseas studies. He bought a laptop and i was marvelled by it. IT was totally different from the desktop and i soon learn it’s perks.
Laptops

Benefits
- Small & compact
- Lightweight & portable
- Easy to use
- Many functions that are exactly as that of a computer
Disadvantages
-
A laptop once damaged is hard to repair as its chips and parts are specifically tiny and the everyday person doesn’t have the intricate expertise to handle such machinery.
-
If it’s damaged then you HAVE to send it back to the manufacturer. Thats alright IF you still have your warranty. IF not, i suggest just selling it to be scrapped.
- Battery charged. Have multiple batteries, especially when your travelling. They dry up fast.
- Upgrades are just a dream. There is no such thing as installing a new graphics card or adding more ram. Once bought, it can’t be upgraded internally.
- More expensive than a desktop
Desktops
Benefits
- Can be upgraded easily. Wanna change a new hard disk or add a new graphics card? Not a problem!
- Warranty is not an issue as there are many computer repair shops that are able to fix your pc.
- You can even fix the pc yourself with proper training
- Cheaper than a laptop
Disadvantages
- Not portable
- Takes up space
I guess both Laptops and Desktops have their place on this Earth. I say for the average user that doesn’t know much about computers, it’s better for you to get a Laptop. However, if you are a more adept and skillful user, the desktop is the only way to go as we are able to overclock our pc’s or even have the fun of builiding it by scratch. I will choose my big Desktop anyday over that small puny Laptop. Ciaoz people!
