Epilating: Braun or Philips

Eversince I started epilating more than a year back, almost everyone I know is switching from shaving or waxing to epilating. Epilating is indeed a GOD-sent grooming tool for us ladies. Its an investment worth paying for.

As epilating lasts longer then shaving and reduces the appearance of hair on our body after long term usage; my friends and cousins are asking me to share and recommend the types of epilators I have used. My first epilator was the Philips Satinelle Ice. Fairoz got it for me as a Valentine’s Day gift due to my request of wanting an epilator.

I was very excited when ”we” purchased my very first epilator. Ignoring the reviews I read over the internet (some reviewers were not very convincing.) I head home eager to try out my new toy. After showering in warm water (opens up pores to ease epilating), I plugged my epilator and started epilating my legs. The results were amazing. My legs felt smooth and I just couldn’t resist not touching myself over and over again. LOL.

The Philips Satinelle Ice

This product, as pretty as it looks is very popular among first time epilator users.

Product Features:

  • Pivoting skin cooler with massager
  • Unique ceramic disc system
  • Exchangeable shaving head
  • Exfoliating body puff, carrying case, and cleaning brush
  • Corded operation

The Philips Satinelle Ice, is easy to use and comes with a skin cooler attached to it which helps closes the pores during usage. Also, the epilator uses a full grip technique to pull the hair out from the roots (a method which I find from experience, hurts.)  Another flaw which I’ve noticed, is that eventhough the epilator comes with a brush in its package, the epilator head is quite a hassle to clean. After months of using it, I find tiny hair balls stuck in it. Being a particularly hygienic person, I started to be slightly disgusted by it. Furthermore, I was begining to notice ingrown hair and tiny bumps that wont go away visible on my legs.

The sight of ingrown hair made me decide to change my epilator. Heading to Best Denki, I surveyed the pioneers in producing epilators. Braun.

The Braun Silk Epil

Product Features:

  • Smartlight – A spotlight which helps you capture even single stray hairs resulting in ultimate smoothness
  • SmartStart Head – This head helps make your start in epilation easy
  • SoftLift system, part of the epilation system, lifts and guides the shortest and flat lying hairs to tweezers. It helps remove the shortest hairs that wax cannot capture
  • Active Massaging Rollers – 4-way moving massaging rollers stimulate skin with micro-pulses before and after hair is removed to minimize pulling sensation
  • Cooling ice pack, carrying case, and cleaning brush
  • Corded operation

What I love most about the Silk Epil is that, besides being launched under the first brand that carries an epilator, is its half grip and removable (easy to clean) head. It is also smaller and lighter. The starter head is an additional incentive which I find is quite useful for your upper lip problem.

Now girls, with all the wide range of epilators out there, let’s not forget the appropriate way of epilating so that our skin will always stay smooth and moist.

Method:

  1. Shower in warm water before you start, to open up pores for easy epilating.
  2. Epilate in your room so that you wont get electrocuted in the toilet with all that water.
  3. Lather yourself in moisturiser to prevent fish-like scales
  4. Head to bed ;)
  5. This step is done on the alternate morning when your skin has toned down from epilating sensitivity. SCRUB!! EXFOLIATE!! This prevents ingrown hair.

Getting rid of unwanted hair has never been this easy. And ladies… Its time to feel SEXY about yourself!  ;)

Laptops

Christmas is around the corner, lots of love and the holiday spirit lightens up the festive occasion. And what more lightens up our hearts that getting CHRISTMAS GIFTS!!!! Well, honestly, a perfect Christmas gift will actually be a laptop. It’s handy, portable and with lots of functions. Furthermore, the prices are ridiculously low. Imagine, only S$1.5k for something so wonderful. I remember the days when my first desktop cost S$4k. It was a DataMini back in 1990 i think. I don’t even know if DataMini still exists. However, i will always choose a Desktop over a Laptop. Well there are three laptops that i have in mind. Firstly, its the super compact, super small, super light and YES! SUPER CHEAP ASUS EEE PC! Second shall be a delicious review of the Sony Vaio TZ series. Last shall be the laptop that i will be getting in February thanks to Starhub, the Compaq Presario Notebook C722Tu.

ASUS EEE PC

Retail Price : S$598 Additional $100 for Windows OS and S$300 for Microsoft Office.

I saw this beauty at the recent Sitex2007. It wasn’t in the exhibition hall but was secretly having a promotional launch outside the hall. When I first saw it, i was like woah. Thats super small and compact. It’s super light (less than a kilo, around 0.92kg) and it packs quite a punch. Here are the specifications.

Specs

  • 7 inch display monitor
  • Linux Operating Software (also compatible Windows Operating System)
  • 512mb DDR2 memory ram
  • 4Gb Solid state disk storage
  • In-built speakers and microphone
  • 4 battery Cells: 5200 mAh, 3.5hrs
  • 0.92kg

Pros

  • Light (0.92kg)
  • Small
  • Cheap!

Cons

  • Linux OS (might take sometime to get used to)
  • Windows OS and Office Tools have extra chage
  • No CD/DVD Rom (Have to get a USB external CD rom)
  • Small Hard Disk (only 4GB)

Who should get it? I recommend business people, students or just someone who wants to finally have a laptop thats light to carry and can fit into your bag or purse (ITs that small!). I know Nurul wants one. HAHA. Next on the list is on my Christmas Wishlist. Sony Vaio TZ Series (VGN-TZ195N/XC)
