It’s HyperCurl Baby!

Published by under Beauty

Ok girls, I’ve sort of found the mascara of the moment and I’m going to say that this one is going to be a part of my holy grail products collection.

During Chinese New Year (well, post CNY) I was trying to get my hands onto this particular Maybelline mascara. I know I previously said that the Great Lash is a great product. It is. However, because of the small brush, I find that it works especially well on my lower and inner lashes (it will work wonders for girls with sparse lashes). Whereas this gem, works wonders on all of my lashes (or for girls with a fuller set of lashes). The mascara I am talking about sold out during CNY (yes! those chinese girls need alot of help with their lashes).

The Maybelline Volum’ Express HyperCurl Mascara priced at S$16.50 is worth every penny in my wallet. I’ve been happily using it for my every weekend outings now. This mascara wonderfully volumes and lengthens my lashes all at once.

However, there is a slight flaw to this wonderfully perfected mascara invention. Its doesn’t live much to its HyperCurl namesake. Well… my lashes are already curled in the first place and therefore I do not see much of difference after (dearest Fai however said there is a slight difference). It is almost similar to the previous Volum’ Express Mascara which I totally adore.

At the end of the day, I love all my Maybelline mascaras. And if I’ve a function to go to, I’ll use both my HyperCurl and Great Lash mascaras for upper and lower lash respectively.

Is he The one?

Published by under Lifestyle

Hmm, these traits really do remind me of me. Haha. Oh well. Guess only Nurul knows which one am I. :) But really, gals, these are the traits of the keepers. If your looking for a keeper that is…

He’s goofy. The sincere suitor is not suave. He doesn’t always say the right thing. It may sound weird to go into a date hoping for a pratfall, but it’s not a bad thing. “Believe me,” Dr. Kalish says. “The false charmer does not trip. He knows where his feet are at all times.”

He remembers personal details and events. It’s the most basic way to show someone you care—by learning about his or her life and interests. Players can’t be bothered with this. One of the most common complaints Dr. Kalish fielded about false charmers was that they failed to show up at important events. “They are narcissists,” she says. “Dating is all about them.” Trifling as it sounds, if a guy remembers to bring over your favorite ice cream or shows up at your pal’s birthday party, he might just be a keeper.

He treats his mama right. Generally speaking, a loving family begets a loving person, and the opposite is also true. Dr. Kalish often heard about alcoholism in the families of insincere boyfriends. While this might incite an understandable desire for you to reach out and help, you should also be cautious. The wounded outcast who is betrayed by his parents makes a hot lead in a soap, but not the best boyfriend. Try the good-hearted guy who flies home for his mom’s birthday instead.

He can mingle. “The sincere guy doesn’t mind being in a room with people who are more accomplished than he is,” Dr. Kalish says. Conversely, the player wants to be in situations that will glorify only himself, especially around his woman. He doesn’t want to listen to another man’s interesting story. A loving guy, on the other hand, can mix with others even when he’s not the star of the show, and actually enjoys learning things from them.

He says, “I love you.” As fawning as a player’s affections are, there’s still something sacred about the L-bomb. Kalish found that insincere men would say, “I want to grow old with you,” or “I want to have children with you,” but “I love you” remained somehow off limits. A guy who says those three magic words may very well mean them.

Are you dating a player?

By Dustin Goot

Ever had that feeling that the guy you’re dating might be too good to be true? As in, he’s so handsome, charming, and amazingly romantic that you’re wondering whether he’s pulling the same moves on various gals all the while wooing you? Nancy Kalish, Ph.D., a psychology professor who has researched and written about lost loves, has observed this phenomenon so many times among her female patients that she decided to get to the bottom of it. Over 18 months of study and interviews, Dr. Kalish found that philanderers share a startling number of characteristics. Know what those red flags are, and your play-dar will be right on target. So, here are five warning signs to watch for—as well as five signs the guy you’re seeing is an upstanding, sincere sort that you should consider keeping around.

5 signs you could have a player on your hands…He’s bold. For the player, the pickup is a game. He doesn’t approach women with the same nerves or awkwardness of a normal guy. He’ll walk up confidently, with a big smile and great eye contact. His manner will be smooth and put-together. This doesn’t mean you should look for the opposite — a stuttering wreck — but be wary of a guy who acts completely bulletproof. A little anxiety is natural. He declares his feelings right away. Players employ a “fast come-on,” according to Dr. Kalish, making sweeping statements of affection (e.g., “You’re the most perfect woman I’ve ever met”) from the word go. These declarations can feel very welcome, especially if you’ve been in a string of relationships that lacked such intimacy. Just remember that true closeness takes time, and it’s normal for a guy to be more guarded about his emotions.

He always plans romantic dates. Dating for the player is kind of a performance art. And he’s going to be good at it. “He won’t just bring a box of chocolates,” Dr. Kalish warns. “He’ll take you to a state fair and offer to share cotton candy.” Nice guys can be romantic, too, but life with them won’t always feel like a John Cusack movie. Non-stop rooftop picnics and weekends at the cottage could be too much.

He has lots of acquaintances, no close friends. The player tends to be a lone wolf. That doesn’t mean he lacks for drinking buddies. The same way he charms women, he can charm lots of people in his life. The key is that, in friendship as in romance, his affections run broad but not deep. If solid pals are hard to come by with this guy, consider yourself warned.

He’s a thrill seeker. A guy who spends his spare time looking for a rush — fast driving, bungee jumping, kite-boarding, heli-skiing — should give you pause. This type, says Dr. Kalish, craves the high that comes from conquering a difficult challenge, and that goes for his relationship goals as well. Once he’s “conquered” you, your allure may quickly fade.

Vantage Point

Published by under Random

So how was everyone’s Good Friday? Hope it was “GOOD”! Hehe. Sorry, couldn’t help it. Well, i was damn glad to have had a nice long weekend though examinations are looming around the corner. Oh well! Haha. Nurul and I enjoyed ourselves by catching an action packed thriller for this weekend. The moment i caught the trailer, i knew i wanted to catch it. Nurul, though not an avid fan of action pack movies, certainly wanted to watch it. Why you ask? Cause it had her heart-throb Dennis Quaid. She squealed in excitement upon learning her favourite actor role.

VANTAGE POINT

What you see isn’t necessarily the true picture. Never entirely believe what you have been told. Even if it’s something that you have seen with your very own eyes. Vantage Point begins with a groundbreaking World Congress coming together to sign an Anti-Terrorist summit in beautiful Spain. You begin with the news broadcasters point of view ( basically what the world will see) on the occasion. Unfortunately, an Anti-Terrorist summit must certainly attract a Terrorist Attack. What more but the Assassination of The President of the United States of America. As the events unfold upon our eyes and the world, unknowingly, a different story is unfolding behind the scenes which shall only be revealed to us in the latter parts of the the show. Deception, betrayal, kidnapping, loyalty, trust, compassion, hope and love are themes of the movie. Watch as the assassination plot unfold in the eyes of 8 different people having different roles in the assassination plot. Of course, the main hero of the day will be Dennis Quaid as the President’s Bodyguard.

It’s certainly an action packed movie. First time that i have seen Nurul literally sitting up straight at the edge of her seat and kept jumping out of her seat due to the multiple explosions. The movie is exhilarating as you are astounded with the plot as the truth unfolds with different characters. You keep questioning yourself why is this character here and for what role do they play. The only irritating part of the show is watching the assassination plot unfold 6 times as each characters perspective position while the President’s being shot. Learn how to overlook it and trust me the movie will be great for you.

Ratings:

Special Effects : 3/5 ( The explosions are cool. The weapons will blow you away too.)

Plot : 5/5 ( The plot is thrilling and unexpected!)

Overall : 4/5 ( Catch it, exciting, stimulating and fun. What more can you ask than none stop action?)

Spring’s must have!

Published by under Fashion

This Spring, floral is in. And with Spring comes all the lovely dresses and pretty outfits. My favourite and a must have for this season is this dress from Mango.

This floral printed long dress cost a whopping S$255.

I’ve just recently spent S$330 on a tailored black kebaya with embroidery (for my cousin’s wedding in april) and there goes without saying any chance of me getting this dress.

Well, all I can do now is hope and pray that when the end-of-season sale arrives, this dress is still in stock with my size and at half the price. For now.. I will make do with just admiring it everytime I step into Mango.

Pen Perfection

Published by under Beauty

Drawing the perfect eyeline on your upper eyelids is never easy. Especially if you have small eyes like mine. But once you get that perfect line, it instantly opens up your eyes and makes it look more alluring.

Now, maintaining the eyeliner is another thing. For oily eyelids like mine, kolh or crayon or other type of non-waterproof eyeliner tends to smudge, and in less than an hour i’ll have panda eyes. Whereas, liquid eyeliner is just messy because of my very shaky hands.

I’m an avid reader of beauty, fashion and lifestyle women’s magazines and eventhough I lag in the beauty department delivering up-to-date information, I believe this is one of those beauty 411 informations that we all need.

Flipping through Teens or Teenage (i don’t remember which. And NO I don’t read these magazines. My younger sisters do.) I saw a short write up on Pen Eyeliners from The Face Shop and I was totally intrigued by it. Pen eyeliners would be a perfect addition to my series of eye makeup as I’ve very unstable hands. So, before I knew it I was heading down to Bugis Junction’s The Face Shop outlet. To my dismay, the shop was closed for some annual dinner function, however, sitting next to it was Missha (another Korean brand makeup store). Knowing that similar branding makeup store carry almost the same products, I tried my luck. Lucky me Missha sold a pen eyeliner (The Style Perfect Pen Eyeliner) and without hesitation I bought it.

I’ve been using the pen eyeliner for quite awhile now and it’s easier then using the liquid eyeliner. I hope the pen eyeliner will provide me with practise skills that will be useful once I decide to go back to using liquid eyeliner. The drawback on pen eyeliners is that I can never tell when the ‘ink’ will run out on me.

Oh and another thing, just after I bought my Missha pen eyeliner, I found out that In2It from Watsons carry a similar eyeliner at a cheaper price. Urgh! More research must be done before I settle for a new makeup item.

Here is a list of pen eyeliners available here in Singapore:

  • In2It Long Wearing Eyeliner Pen retails at S$9.10, available at Watsons.
  • Canmake Pen Eyeliner at S$10.90 also available at Watsons.
  • Missha The Style Perfect Pen Eyeliner (S$11.90)
  • The Face Shop Easy Brush Eyeliner (S$19.90)

Enjoy trying on these new products girls.
