Eight years is a long wait. Finally, the day came together with lots of lights, camera, glamour, happiness as well as sadness. Last saturday was the solemnization and union of my dearest cousin Kak Raudhah and her partner Abg Aziz.
I remember vaguely when my cousin first introduced Abg Aziz to the family back in 2000 during Eid. How time flies. Their relationship wasn’t at all smooth sailing all the way but they stood the test of time. The last couple of days proved that it was worth the wait.
The last few days was not only chaotic but tiring. My cousin’s long process of becoming a beautiful bride took almost 3 hours. The transformation was absolutely stunning (thanks to Kak Rita from Putri Mas) that even the groom was dumb founded. When my cousin first said that she picked Putri Mas for all her deco and outfits, I wasn’t really impressed. Never did I expect that they surpassed my expectations.

Now, the wedding wasn’t at all that glamourous as some would expect. Yes, there was over 1,000 guests during the reception but it was more sweet and simple from my point of view. Food was great (courtesy of Draman & Sons Wedding Catering Services), the wedding dais (also from Putri Mas) was simply elegant and the outfits (Putri Mas again) were stunning and entertainment was in the form of a simple live malay orchestra by De’lima. But what made the wedding unforgettable was the ‘hadang‘. The ‘hadang‘ is a tradition whereby the bridegroom will be stopped to ask for gifts of cash before being able to meet his bride. Poor Abg Aziz had to face not only 1 but 6 ‘hadangs’ from different groups. In the end he made it to his bride of course.

Hadang No. 2 – Guy cousins with bamboo pole

Hadang No. 4 - Ummi(s) in bargaining action

Hadang No. 6 – Led by Bride’s 2nd Brother Abg Hadi (in lime green)
(Hadang No. 1 was a wall built by 3 little boys, No. 3 was Screaming Girl Cousins and No. 5 was the unexpected SilkAir Cabin Crew with a Sarong spread.)

Finally! An agreement between Groom and Bride’s 2nd Brother. LOL!

Final Destination. The Bride & Groom together.
Looking at my cousin’s wedding, I must say that Putri Mas is something I will definitely look out for in the future.
For now, I’ve got to prepare for 2 more wedding which I think will be as chaotic and fun as this one. My dearest cousin Kak Shikin and her fiance Abg Sufian is getting hitched in November while my dearest friend Zandy’s wedding to Rifae will be in October.
