This is something I am not proud of repeating. But as most of you know… I am quite a lazy person. Hehe.. Although, my laziness doesn’t prevent me from certain beauty and grooming practices. One of them, which I currently make it my monthly ritual and if I’m not so lazy, my fortnightly ritual – Facials.
Doing facials at home is one of the easiest and most economical. All you need to do is invest in a good mask and exfoliant. Since I am a lazy person and I don’t have much patience to prepare all the tools for a home facial, I cut my facial steps to the basics (NO! It does not mean normal cleanse, tone and moisturise).
The first step to a basic facial at the comforts of your own home is to get yourself an exfoliant and a mask. My choices are Simple Soothing Cleansing Scrub and Burt’s Bees Pore Refining Mask.
My choices may come as a question mark for most of you. But here’s the logic, a good scrub like the Simple Soothing Cleansing Scrub can help get rid of dead skin cells leaving your skin smooth and supple. While the Burt’s Bees Pore Refining Mask tighten pores and stimulate skin, leaving your complexion cleansed, renewed and radiant.
Simple Soothing Cleansing Scrub is specially formulated to remove all impurities from your skin. With natural corn cob granules and vitamin E, it will exfoliate and renew your skin to reveal smoother, more even textured skin.

To use Simple Soothing Cleansing Scrub is simple (get the pun? Hehehe..) Just apply a small amount of the scrub onto your clean dry palms and massage your face in circular motion. Remember to make sure your face is dry too. If you don’t like the rough feel of the scrub on your dry face, you can wet your face slightly. The microbeads (corn cob granules) in the scrub will exfoliate away all the dead skin cells.
Burt’s Bees Pore Refining Mask is an all natural face mask made with French green clay and a selection of eight dried herbs and flowers to tighten pores and stimulate skin, leaving your complexion cleansed, renewed and radiant.

Now, the Burt’s Bees Pore Refining Mask is slightly trickier use. Too much of the powder will make it go to waste and too little will make it watery, thus not having a mask effect. My perfect blend of the mask is to use the spatula given. Put about 3 scoops of the spatula and mix it with a teaspoon of water. This mixture of thin paste is just nice for you to smooth over a clean face, avoiding your eyes and mouth. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off with warm water. Your skin feels much better after using the mask and you will notice a slight difference in the size of your pores.
However though, the Burt’s Bees Pore Refining Mask is not available in Singapore. Haiz.. Again you have to source it over the internet. Otherwise, you can replace it with a favourite mask of your own.
So… here is the steps to your 20-minute facial:-
- Exfoliate
- Cleanse
- Put your favourite Mask on for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
- Tone
- Moisturise
- And lastly, don’t forget the SUNBLOCK!
