Chako Restaurant

Chako Restaurant

I guess you all should have known by now that i brought Nurul to Chako Japanese Restaurant for her birthday.

So what is Chako?

It’s a quaint rustic totally authentic and the best Japanese restaurant that I have ever tasted in Singapore. Chako is run by a nice Japanese family that certainly serves home-made original scrumptious meals. And the big plus point is that their HALAL (no cert tho. The food is halal but they do sell alcoholic drinks.) A gem of a place and you can feel the difference with just one bite. Indeed, it revealed to me that Genki Sushi & Ramen Ten are pure frauds to the real deal. Just have a taste of Chako’s sushi and you will immediately know what i mean!

Well, Nurul and i tried out unique meals for her birthday. I had the Unagi (eel) set while Nurul had the Beef Gyutamaju.

My Unagi was delightful. The first time i saw it, my brother Firdaus was licking it off the plate as he gobbled it down as fast as a mad hatter. Frighteningly, he finished everything on his plate. I knew that if i went to Chako again, i had to get it. Indeed, Chako’s sets never fail to disappoint me as it comes in a full proper manner. It comes with Miso soup (way nicer and more texture than any outside shop), soft pure tofu (much smoother and softer as i literally melts in your mouth once u taste it!), sweet vegetables, a very soury preserved fruit & finally my Unagi topped with sesame seed, seaweed and basked with scrambled eggs with rice underneath. I loved the interplay of sweet, sour, bitter, salty & oh so juicy meal. The unagi was perfect (most restaurants doesn’t know how to make good eel!) and was heavenly in my mouth. Damn, salivating just thinking back about the meal.

Nurul had another interesting meal, the Beef Gyutamaju. All those time tasting the Ramen Ten meat, what were we thinking! If you thought that was good, you haven’t tasted anything yet. Gyutamaju is a thinly sliced beef in egg and onion gravy served on a bed of rice. The meat was delightful, marinated to perfection with its succulent juices still trapped within and yet so soft that makes it slides ever so gently down your throat. I have never had meat like that, never. Believe me, all you need to eat is that meat and you will be entirely satisfied.

After having our scrumptious main course, we both knew that we had to try the desserts. I got the blueberry ice cream while soy-vanilla ice cream was Nurul’s choice. It came in a nice serving with strawberries, grapes, peach and blueberry cut fruits. Indeed, i loved the soy-vanilla more as it tastes so unlike soy; it had a nice vanilla twang to it.

Well the time of the hour came about when i walked over to the counter to settle the bill. I was expecting it to hover around $100 cause it really was a delightful meal and i would have no qualms paying it for such quality food. A shock came to me when the bill was only $50! I was stunned; two main course sets with desserts at only $50? Priceless.

Chako is a must try once in your life before you pass on! If ever you wanted to taste true Japanese food then it’s either you buy an airplane ticket to Japan or the simpler solution; Head on down to Chako Restaurant! I do advise you to bring something along to play with cause the wait might be long. It takes time to create a masterpiece.

Nur: Yes!! It was featured on Makansutra Raw… One more thing, if pple ever wondered why it’s Halal despite the alcohol is because the owners are Muslim converts and the alcohol is to cater to the plenty Japanese expats ard that area who loves their sake…
