J’s Wok & Grill

Firstly, to all our fellow Muslim readers, have a wonderful Ramadhan. We have successfully cleared 15 days of fasting. Other than being a month of prayers & recitation of the Quran, it is also a special month where Nurul & I go from place to place to discover and taste new restaurants. I caught an ad in the newspaper recently in Berita Harian of a restaurant giving a special break fast offer. Thus, while driving around Bedok, pondering over what should we have to break fast, i then suggested to eat at J’s Wok & Grill Place. (Special thanks to Izwah for telling us the location of the place.)

J’s Wok & Grill

J’s Wok & Grill is actually the now defunct Jeewa Restaurant from Joo Chiat. Running under the guidance of Muslim Charitable Organisation Jamiyah Singapore, it is surprisingly an amazing gastronomic find. :)   It serves both scrumptious & irresistible eastern and western cuisines. Usually it has ala-carte menus at affordable prices. However, during this fasting month, it serves a special Ramadhan Buffet featuring a wide array of international dishes with a selection of over 35 dishes ranging from soup, salad, pasta, side dishes, main course, dessert and drinks. The best thing is that it’s menu Changes EVERYDAY! Thus, you can try something deliciously new each day!

Well, Nurul & I were impressed with the decor. It looked really stylish with a touch of class! Although found in a tranquil HDB Bedok estate, the place is suitable as it is reminiscent of Holland Village rows of restaurants. It was packed when we arrived and I was really worried that we wouldn’t be able to find a seat. Lucky for us, they had a second floor seating which proved even more pleasurable as we had the whole room to ourselves. Two lovebirds with a big screen television and lots of food. Blissful indeed.

The food was delightful and mouth watering. You have an even mix of eastern and western cuisine. I loved the chicken soup with buns, salads topped with my favourite Thousand Island dressing, yellow fragrant saffron rice with kangkong belacan, sweet & sour fish, black pepper chicken, mutton stew & topped off with fried baby squid ( My FAVOURITE!). Please try their pasta. A delight especially with their creamy white sauce that’s to die for.(Reminds me of Azhari’s creamy white pasta from last Raya! Hey bro, cooking again?) Not done yet. We move on to the dessert with fruit cocktail, cheesecake, chocolate cake, bubur cacar, terigu porridge. Top that off with bandung, and indeed you have a wonderful feast.

I have to also commend their excellent staff. We certainly felt welcomed and entertained all through the night with swift service even till serving our food upstairs & constantly checked if we needed anything. I have to praise Jamiyah Business School for doing a wonderful job in educating their Hospitality & Tourism Management student attaches. Brilliant students with wonderful and friendly service skills. All thanks too  to the wisdom and guidance of their Operations Manager Mohd Hasni (A friendly man that’s looking for a nice chat.) A plus point in my book for the restaurant.

Lemme just say that the wild mushroom soup (served in a bun-looking pastry bowl thingy) is definitely unforgettable. $6.90 but the taste…
