WILD CHILD

Upon the suggestion of my cute lil cousin Syaza & of course not forgetting my dear Nurul, we went to catch Wild Child starring Emma Roberts & the soon to be sought after heart throb Alex Pettyfer. It touches on the same genre but trust me, there’s more beneath the surface.
Well Nurul finally got a day off, so i suggested to her to wind down a little and lets catch a movie. Its been a while and let it be a funny romantic comedy. In the end, we caught a movie which my dear little cousin Syaza suggested to me just last nite before she flew off to Melbourne. Haha. Thanks for the tip Syaza. I really enjoyed this movie. We caught the 6:50pm show at Vivo City.
Basically, the movie is ala Clueless. Yes, i bet you many people don’t remember Alicia Siverstone started out this whole genre which attacks the intelligence of American blondes & interestingly enough it has survived close to 2 decades. The last being House Bunny starring Anna Faris. The movie starts out with a typical blonde Poppy (Emma Roberts) with a rebellious nature against her father. After an audacious stunt with her dad, she has no choice but to be sent to a boring country side single sex boarding school in England (with only the irresistible Alex Pettyfer being the only lucky guy in the whole school). Once there, she tries many tricks up her sleeves to get expelled from the school. However, along the way, she realises that there is more to life that just Iphones, Gucci shoes & being a typical brat.
What i loved about the movie was the collision between American & British cultures. How interesting to have sprouted from the same origins & yet be differed amazingly to such an extent. It wasn’t your typical Blonde movie. It showed that teenagers nowadays are growing old too fast. Being too fascinated with the fashion, accessories, gizmos, fads, attitudes, looks & sex. What was most important was enjoying your life now as a student with friends & creating lifelong bonds through your struggles of school. It’s interesting to see the Brits still have a far ’sane’ society (other than their drinking of course. But oh wait, I forgot, that’s a culture thing! Yeah, riteeeee!) It’s a good wake up call especially to our female teenagers as i believe they are being pressured to ‘mature’ at such an accelerated rate. You’re really suppose to be caring about being who you are, your family & your friends.
Wild Child is a brilliant comedy tailored for wholesome family fun. Do catch it and you will have loads of laughter. Do look out for the typical Keira Knightley Brits pun in the show with their square jaws. Hehe.
