Earth Hour 2009 Singapore

BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO! Bravo to the World for trying to fight this epidemic against pollution & global warming. Thanks to the Australian City of Sydney for coming up with this brilliant idea to save the Earth. It’s just one hour in a year whereby we sacrifice our lights for Mother Earth. Bravo to Singapore for taking part in this amazing and magnificent event.
Well, it passed by quite quickly to be honest. I celebrated Earth Hour by simply switching off everything in my home except for my fridge. Don’t want my food to go bad now do I. Haha. I had a splendid time and decided to commemorate this wonderful movement by going for a personal Earth Hour run. Haha, guess to remove the toxins and healthen my body as well. After stretching and doing my push ups, sit-ups & jumping jacks in the dark; I went out and got my body swinging into a stroll jog. I was indeed happy when i saw a couple of houses nearby with all lights closed. One family even was having a candle lit dinner and enjoying a wonderful scrumptious meal. However, i was still quite dismayed at the apparent lack of social understanding and innate responsibilty to help the Earth. Only 60 minutes & yet many people simply couldn’t obey such a simple gesture. I guess more education is needed to promote Earth hour. Well at least am proud as my friend Taufik texted me simply praising this act. Haha. Indeed, other parts of Singapore got into the act too with several hotels & including the Singapore flyer switched off their lights in support of the movement. As i ran among my housing estate, I realised how much i have taken for granted Allah’s gift to Man, this wonderful Earth. It has given us so much & yet we treat it so unkindly like a spoilt child mistreating their parents. Much more has to be done, many families have to take part in this simple gesture. Greater education & public awarenesss have to be increased although I praise 91.3 & 95 FM for promoting it quite strongly. The smog from cars certainly affected my run Quite truly, the Earth is dying and it is everyone’s responsibility to help save Gaia. We have but only one Home. Please treasure and protect it. Thanks once again to everyone the supported Earth Hour. I am looking forward to next year. Hopefully, more people will join in and maybe we can keep the lights off longer. On a side note, I am thinking of having a yearly Earth Hour run next year. We shall see then who’s with me. Haha.
